Tim James is 1542 km down on his double up, back to back, there and back Race Across South Africa (RASA). The temps have been chilly and the wind has not been at his back as he makes his way from the finish line to the start line of RASA.
Tim is raising money for the Freedom Challenge Scholarship Fund, where new opportunities for education are offered to scholars along the Mehlodeng portion of the Freedom Trail.
Today Tim rode 93 km with 2485m of ascent on his single speed. He is sleeping at Chesney-wold farm tonight, being hosted by the wonderful Minki and her daughter Coreen.

The Departure.
Tim was joined by a few friends and freedom fans for a relaxed lunch at Diemersfontein before setting off at 13h30 on 1 June 2024. Mark Basel rode the first day with Tim to Troutahven.
For most people completing Freedom Challenge RASA once in a lifetime is a remarkable achievement. Tim James has already done this 10 times, winning the event 3 times and is the current single-speed record holder. He has more blankets than anyone else.
This year Tim is taking crazy to another whole new level! He will be departing Diemersfontein on 1 June 2024 and riding the entire Freedom Trail route in reverse before sleeping one night in PMB and then hopping back on his bike to complete RASA 2024. All this on a SINGLE SPEED bike!
Tim has set himself an ambitious target of completing the entire ride in the month of June... 30 days to ride the Freedom Trail twice. It takes some people 26 days to do it once. We will be watching his dot with great interest and hopefully raising some good funds for the Freedom Challenge Scholarship Fund through this initiative. All bets are open!
GOOD LUCK TIM!
